As many of you may have heard, unfortunately George White has gone into administration this week. As you can imagine we are all very shocked and saddened by this unfortunate news and all our thoughts and best wishes are with their employees.

However, we would like to reassure all our past, existing and future customers that this does in no way effect the continued running of Riding in Action and we will be trading and training as normal from the same location.

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has announced changes to the Module 1 motorcycle test which make the test not only simpler to understand but also easier to perform. [...]

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has announced changes to the Module 1 motorcycle test which make the test not only simpler to understand but also easier to perform. On the face of it these changes are quite minor, however, in practice they form significant differences in how the test is performed and monitored.

The changes of note are;

a. The slow speed ride will now be observed by the examiner rather than them walking along side and controlling the speed.

b. An additional manoeuvre of a controlled stop has been added to enable the candidate to get a “feel of the circuit” and will not have a speed requirement. This means you will get an opportunity to ride the circuit before moving on to the emergency stop.

c. The layout of cones for the emergency stop and avoidance manoeuvres has changed to allow the candidate to pick their own path to the manoeuvre. This is a big improvement as the previous layout caused a significant number of problems.

d. Most importantly there is now a 5% allowance on the speed requirement of 50kph for the avoidance and emergency stop manoeuvres, this effectively means the minimum speed allowed will be 48kph not 50kph. This may not seem much to you but believe me when I say, the number of candidates who fail the test because of only travelling at 48/49kph is very significant.

In conclusion we at Riding in Action believe these are positive steps towards a fairer test.

These changes are due to take effect from the 16th May 2011. For a more in-depth breakdown and detailed look at the changes to the module 1 test, follow the link below to read the DSA’s own description

So, it looks as though winter is well and truly upon us and brought the cold and wet weather along for the ride. I have recently been fortunate enough to jet off to southern Spain (purely work related obviously) investigating biking holidays. Wow, the roads are fantastic and the weather is as amazing as you’d expect!

If you are interested in a biking holiday to Spain, watch this space as more information will soon be forthcoming. In the meantime if you need any further convincing that a Spanish biking holiday is for you, check out two of Jamiroquai’s newest videos below, both of which were filmed in Almeria, to see how beautiful the weather is but more importantly how incredible the roads are.

Is it my imagination or are we seeing a change in the weather? It seems to me that at long last, we are seeing brighter skies and more importantly drier roads! Wooo!

Thinking of taking up riding? Well now is absolutely the right time. Just a quick heads up, as we come into the summer months we are becoming busier and busier and as a consequence availability is at a premium. If you have specific times or dates you want for your training then get booking NOW or you may lose out.

Finally, for anyone out there that is not aware, March 14th (Mothering Sunday) is the date of the ‘Ride for Afghan Heroes’; a ride-out to show appreciation for our troops. Please note the registration for this event is closed and they are asking for non registered riders NOT to attend for fear of bringing the road network to a standstill! It will be a great turnout with more than 10,000 registered riders and it will undoubtedly receive high profile publicity. This is just what we need at the start of the riding season. Hope to see you there.

Well, well, it’s that time of year again and if, like me, you struggle with what to get for your partner, son or daughter, friend or not so distant relative. Then why not consider one of our Riding in Action gift vouchers? They can be redeemed against any of our training packages from CBT through to Advanced training and can be purchased in blocks of £20. Each voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase so you can always put it towards training for the brighter months if you so desire.

If a loved one has a birthday in the New Year then what better to give, than a voucher towards the best training around.
